Man Ray
Man Ray
Man Ray was an american visual artist born in south Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He spent most of his career in Paris and considered himself a painter although he was best known for photography. He contributed greatly to the Dada and surrealist movements and he was a renowned fashion and portrait photographer. He began displaying his work while in high school and he would teach himself different techniques by frequently visiting art galleries in his free time.
The image that first stood out to me is the one on the left. I like this image because it is so elegant and simple but also so interesting. It gives almost a sense of mystery because you don't know if those 'tears' are water droplets or beads or little glass balls or if they were intentionally placed or randomly placed. this photograph makes me want to ask questions and i feel like that is good for man ray because it will make the viewer want to look at his other art work.
I also really liked this picture because it is so different to the previous one. this one is almost scary and looks as though it could be in a horror movie. I like that the face looks kind of disheveled and blury as if he moved the camera while taking the picture. I like that Man Ray has many different styles of photography and doesn't just stick to one style. this makes him more interesting because you never know what could be next.
